Ancient Greek Silver AR Drachm Coin, Circa 400 - 330 B.C. Obverse: Chimera standing left, raising forepaw. Reverse: Dove flying left; NO in field. Ruler: Greek City States; Mint: Sikyon; Region: Pelopnnese. Framed in 14Kt yellow gold pendant that measures 7/8" wide, 1-1/2" drop. Certificate of Authenticity.

Sikyon* was a famous Greek center for the arts, especially painting and sculpture, and one of the first cities in Peloponnese to issue coinage.

These coins first appeared near the beginning of the 5th century BCE, and moct commonly depicted the images of a flying dove- symbolic of spirit and renewal, and a fire breathing chimaera- a dreaded beast that was ultimately killed by the cities cheif diety, Apollo and the hero Bellerophon. 

*The city of Sikyon was located 11 miles northwest of Corinth in northern Peloponnese.
