Fossil Ivory Earrings, Sterling

  • Description

Sterling Silver "Microcosm" Earrings with Fossilized Ivory and Blue Topaz by Zealandia. These enigmatic fossilized walrus ivory earrings are called microcosm for their resemblance to a slice of something much larger. Designer Jessica Lins must have had the cosmos on her mind when she created this beautiful pair. A central fossilized ivory “sun” orbited by smaller sterling silver “planets” and one particularly striking satellite set in blue topaz create a universe all their own.

Dimensions: 1 1/8" High, 1/2" Wide

The ancient ivory is anywhere from 500 to 3000 years old. It is legally obtained from native-owned land, having been excavated by Eskimo families from old village sites on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. Colors will vary as each beautiful piece of ancient ivory is uniquely tinted by earthen minerals. Another source of fossilized ivory is Ancient Mammoth Tusk. Plentiful until their extinction 15,000 years ago, our Mammoth Ivory is usually found by gold miners in Alaska and Canada.
