Fossil Ivory Earrings, sterling

  • Description

Sterling Silver  and Fossil Ivory "Moon Dance" Fern earrings by Zealandia. The ornate, yet classic, fossilized ivory and fern earrings take their inspiration from the New Zealand Maori Koru design. The koru represents the new growth of the silver fern as it unfolds, symbolizing creation. The unfolding fern invokes a feeling of both perpetual motion and a return to the point of origin, suggesting new life, growth and strength. The koru's graceful outline and almost whimsical mood makes it ideal for design work and as a jewelry accent.

Dimensions: 2 1/2" Drop, 3/4" Width

The ancient ivory is anywhere from 500 to 3000 years old. It is legally obtained from native-owned land, having been excavated by Eskimo families from old village sites on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. Colors will vary as each beautiful piece of ancient ivory is uniquely tinted by earthen minerals. Another source of fossilized ivory is Ancient Mammoth Tusk. Plentiful until their extinction 15,000 years ago, our Mammoth Ivory is usually found by gold miners in Alaska and Canada.
